Let's Be Aware of Gender

An interactive workshop on gender identity and sex as sociological phenomena.

On the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, the Anna Lindh Foundation network in Sweden hosted an online workshop on raising awareness about gender and sex and how to develop a reflexive approach on gender activism. The workshop was run by the chairperson of RFSU Gothenburg, Niki Chalusi. Niki is an experienced trainer and educator on gender activism and civil courage.

This dynamic workshop includes two modules:

Module One generates personal reflection and a deeper understanding of the construction of gender.

Module Two examines the practices that can be applied when gender theory and practice are intertwined.

The main goals of the workshop was to offer the participants tools to develop a critical understanding of gender: its role and manifestation in society; and how to apply gender theory in your everyday practice, including the division between the private and the public spheres.

We had young participants from Sweden, Tunisia, Lebanon, Iraq, Cyprus, Jordan, UK and Albania.

Guest speaker: Hana Jemli (Tunisia) who shared about her gender activism work in Tunisia and Bulgaria.
