QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS ABOUT ENTRANCE FEES AND ANNUAL PASSES

WHY DO THE MUSEUMS OF WORLD CULTURE CHARGE FOR ADULT ADMISSION?

When the government submitted its budget proposal to Parliament in November 2022, it was decided that compensation for free admission to the state museums will be discontinued from 1 January 2023. As a result, the Museums of World Culture will need to reintroduce entrance fees for adults from the turn of the year.

WHAT APPLIES TO CHILDREN AND ADOLESCENTS?

If you are under 19 years of age, you still have free admission to the four Museums of World Culture, just as before. If you are 19 or older, you are required to purchase an annual pass or day ticket.

Free admission (LMA, ICOM, Sweden's museums and cultural heritage card)

It is also free admission for asylum seekers with a valid LMA card from the Swedish Migration Agency. Free admission also applies to members of ICOM or Sweden's museums and to holders of the cultural heritage card.

WHAT DOES IT COST TO VISIT ONE OF THE MUSEUMS OF WORLD CULTURE?

A day ticket to either the Ethnographic Museum, the Mediterranean Museum, the East Asian Museum in Stockholm or the Museum of World Culture in Gothenburg costs SEK 150.

An annual pass, valid for 12 months from the date of purchase includes admission to all four museums, costs SEK 140. The annual pass also includes several other benefits such as discounted prices on programme items and special exhibitions, newsletters with information, invitations and offers.

WHY IS IT THE SAME PRICE WITH AN ANNUAL PASS TO FOUR MUSEUMS COMPARED TO ENTRANCE FEE FOR ONE DAY TO ONE MUSEUM?

Museums and culture play an important role in society. The Museums of World Culture are keen to ensure that as many people as possible continue to be able to enjoy our exhibits, that is why we want entrance prices to have as low a financial burden as possible.

An annual pass also means that, as a visitor, you become a member of the Museums of World Culture. We see great value in building a relationship with our visitors, which in many respects we carry off through membership letters via email.

WHAT IS ANNUAL PASS – SUPPORT?

It is a regular annual pass where you pay an extra SEK 100. There are no extra perks.

This extra cost means that someone else, who otherwise cannot afford it, can visit the Museums of World Culture. In addition to a low price for annual passes in general, we want to lower the financial burden by, for example, being able to offer one free evening per month or targeted activities to selected target groups.
