Jade, the Material for Life and the Afterlife
This talk will introduce jade. What is it? What does it look like? Where is it found? How is jade carved? Why is jade so important to Chinese society? And why did they use it for the afterlife. It will also discuss the project to catalogue the jade collection of the Östasiatiska museet (Museum of Far Eastern Antiquities).
The speaker James Lin is responsible for the Asian art collection at the Fitzwilliam Museum. James obtained a Master's degree and a Ph.D. in Chinese Art History at the University of Oxford.
